Whats with the Trains?

In 1882 the section of railway connecting Springfield, MO to Ozark, MO was completed and, In the following year, the section connecting Ozark to Chadwick, MO was completed. This stretch of railway was known as the Chadwick Flyer. The history of this railway runs right beneath our feet and tells the story of several connecting towns between Springfield and Chadwick.

The Chadwick Flyer ran until 1934 when the track was officially abandoned and mostly removed. Several cities that sprung up along the railroad still stand, including Sparta, Oldfield, Chadwick and Cassidy (which is now Fremont Hills!). It had four major depots: Galloway, Sparta, Chadwick, and one right here in Ozark.

Currently, there is a project to create a Chadwick Flyer Trail that runs along the path the old train used to travel along!

Personally, we love history. These towns are rich with it, and we’d love to honor the history that lives in these towns while supporting local artists/creators. That is why we bring to you Off the Rails Bakery.
